Batobus

Beyond the excellent Metro subway and RER light rail, eleven months a year you can get around Paris by boat. That’s right, along the Seine from February through December, the Batobus stops near 8 major Paris landmarks. In low season the boat stops running at 4:30 at night, but in summer goes until 9:30. Cost is 13 euros per adult and 7 per child under 16.

France Rail

The main way to book rail tickets in France from the USA is through Rail Europe. Our sister site LinkParis.com is an authorized France Rail agency and is available to assist with booking.

Sometimes rail tickets are cheaper when purchased on site in France, however you are taking a risk as the price is often higher and certain trains tend to sell out.

Rail passes are available for purchase before your trip to France. Please note that rail passes can be a bit confusing to use and often require supplements for desired routes. The bottom line is that you can still save money purchasing a France Rail Pass, but you should price out your desired routes before traveling.

As a rule all high-speed (TGV, Eurostar, etc.) and overnight trains require a supplement as well seat reservations.

A five minute walk to the Champs Elysees, so very much a premium neighborhood. Nice onsite bar, with a lounge and english language newspapers in the lobby. This is a boutique style hotel, so not a bustling “scene.” Serene rooms; bathrooms have actual baths, not just showers.

Hotel Sorbonne

This is a former 2 star which upgraded itself by adding air conditioning units in most rooms, an on-site bar, and redecorated rooms and bathrooms. Hotel Sorbonne is a consumer favorite due to its good location and proximity to the Latin Quarter, Sorbonne and music clubs, cafes, and so forth. The hotel is completely non smoking.

Rooms are also equipped with a new iMac for easy internet access.

Esprit is all about the Left Bank! A great location set in the most fashionable district of Paris, surrounded by the loveliest boutiques and shops, all types of galleries and patisseries like Pierre Herme and Gérard Mulot. It is truly in walking distance to the heart of Paris… the Louvre, Musee D’Orsay and Notre Dame. The hotel, as you may know, is within sight of the Church of Saint Sulpice, but also it is sandwiched between both Rue Bonaparte and Rue de Seine — which take you directly to the river… via a wonderful array of restaurants, galleries and cafes like Deux Magots, Cafe de Fleur and don’t miss – Laduree.

The blocks around the hotel simply breathe of luxury in hushed tones. The creativity that goes into Parisian window displays – whether to front a high-fashion house or a neighborhood chocolatier – is unmatched anywhere in the world. This is one of the best neighborhoods to experience window shopping, where a medieval maze of streets have trend-setting boutiques, old shops like Poilane, as well as, larger stores like Au Bon Marché. Between the church of St-Germain-des-Prés and that of St-Sulpice, hides a little restaurant La Petite Cour and just a little further is great dining at Helene Darroze. All of this adds to your stay at Esprit Saint Germain.

The hotel interior has the same panache – subtle but its detail, detail, detail. The cozy fireplace in the living room just lures you in like being in a private club. Wonderful candles add to the glow and fresh aromas. Everything has been thought out. As the hotel is small – efficiency rules and the space is utilized very smartly. The bathrooms are perfectly fitted, sleek slate, great lighting, mirrors with storage behind, and a deep soaking tub. Mini-bars are very generous. Tea/coffee maker well supplied. Liked a bottle of water on the desk. And loved being sent off to the airport with a bottle of water for the trip… a very thoughtful gesture — and there were plenty of them.

The breakfast room is warm with the lovely vaulted ceiling – well lit with modern fixtures ample for reading the morning paper and quiet. Excellent quality of jams, honey and butter.

The staff is exceptional — polite, friendly and are proactive hosts. They take exceptional pride in the hotel.

Chez Les Anges

Dating back to the 1950′s, but recently refreshed by a new chef, the owner of Au Bon Accueil near the Eiffel Tower. Well priced for seasonal food, with an emphasis on vegetables, never a strong suit in classic French cooking. Prix fixe menu is 36 euros, and many wines are at or under 30 euros a bottle. LG

Walk into the private mansion where this restaurant is set and you are in another world. Nouvelle French food, with twists on old favorites. Michelin-starred. Very expensive. Plenty of rich and famous people-watching here. Expect perfectly prepared foie gras, duck, pigeon, and lovely souffles. Named for the famous Roman gourmand. LG

Small bistro, independently owned and has a mom and pop feel – when pop is a chef. Quite busy, so reservations are recommended, even on a week night, as there are not very many tables. Don’t expect trendy, but do expect fresh, friendly and a dedicated staff. LG

Jules Verne Restaurant

On the 2nd floor of the Eiffel Tower is a very lovely gourmet dining experience, with one of the most amazing views on earth. Expensive, but the relative deal is to do the prix fixe lunch at 85 euros a person without wine. That’s only Monday-Friday. Whenever you go, you’ll see business diners, people on special birthdays and anniversaries, and even foodies, as this is an Alain Ducasse restaurant. Every month showcases a different French wine region. LG
