There are cheese shops and there are cheese shops. Here, you rub shoulders with famous and regular folks who all want some Camembert, Brie and, a rare find, Vacherin in season. 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Closed Sunday and Monday. LG

It’s rare in Paris to find a pastry shop which also sells sweets. This does so, and then some. The partners which run it once did desserts for Michelin-starred Pierre Gagnaire. They are on the cutting edge of ingredients, with additions like jasmine and rose. LG

Expats who want Oreos, Reese’s Pieces, Dr. Pepper and ingredients for Thanksgiving dinner shop here, at exorbitant prices. Rumor has it you can go to a supermarket in the suburbs and get the same stuff for less, but being in the center of the city (especially Paris) has its price. LG

America limits or outright bans raw milk (unpasteurized) dairy products. This shop features ONLY raw milk cheeses. Afficionados swear by the richer flavor. It must be good, because there are 6 branches in Paris. Most of the cheeses are French, with some from the UK and other parts of Europe, even Greece. Note that all the shops are closed for a long lunch hour of 1-4 p.m. Check the website for the many other locations, among them Saint Germain and the Passy Market. LG

They have a New York shop, but Paris is the mother ship, with more than 40 varieties, plus custom chocolate bars featuring such trendy additions as coffee beans and orange peel. For truffles and individual pieces, prices start at $72 a pound. No milk chocolate, only dark, with some chocolates being 99 per cent cacao. LG

Open only Monday-Friday, 6:45 a.m. to 8 p.m. Narrowly focused on making a few things excellently, such as baguettes which take 7 hours to make instead of the usual 90 minutes.
