A five minute walk to the Champs Elysees, so very much a premium neighborhood. Nice onsite bar, with a lounge and english language newspapers in the lobby. This is a boutique style hotel, so not a bustling “scene.” Serene rooms; bathrooms have actual baths, not just showers.

Hotel Pershing Hall

A boutique hotel with the on and off staff typical of these hotels. Very pretty design, with a trendy bar and nightclub. Guests say you can hear the bass thumping in certain rooms. The restaurant has a love/hate following. Prices are near 5 star levels, so if that’s your price point you can probably do better than this locale. The hotel’s location is fantastic, with a platinum history as the pied a terre of a French count’s mistress and being General Pershing’s WWI headquarters. LG

Minutes walk from Left Bank shopping and the Musse d’Orsay. The 6 story building dates from the 18th century, featuring an eclectic vintage elevator marked as a historical site! Cute and quiet, in a very safe neighborhood. Some bathrooms have two sinks – good for couples. When breakfast is included, be sure to order a cappuccino as part of your breakfast. Best Western Regent’s Garden

Near the convention center (Palais des Congrès) and the Arc de Triomphe (7 minute walk), the Regent’s Garden has 39 rooms and has recently gone from 3 to 4 stars. Napoleon III built this château for his physician. Sound proof, non smoking hotel, bathrobes in the rooms and completely renovated. Several food choices within walking distance. Food market across the street. Courtyard garden and on site parking.

Lots of rooms, convenient location, web deals on the site. Some rooms come with slippers and robe, if you book a superior room. Location is convenient and safe. More of a business hotel with a brusque but competent staff. Blackout curtains and individual climate control in the rooms, LG

Hotel D’Aubusson

A mansion dating from 1630, long ago converted to a 49 room hotel. Excellent service-oriented hotel. Jazz in the bar downstairs Thurs, Fri and Sat. Always a fire in the fireplace. Guests who come for an occasion or who stay for a few nights get little gifts like in-room champagne. Walk to Pont Neuf or Rue de Buci for perfect pastry, cafes, etc. On site cafe. Website has excellent packages which are updated seasonally. LG

Hotel Victoria Palace

Really lovely hotel with above average amenities for this neighborhood. Free internet access in the business center, two non smoking floors, air conditioning throughout and an onsite bar open until 1 a.m. Pricey, but the website always has specials. LG

Being in an old building that wasn’t purpose-built to be a hotel, this has its quirks and charm, to some seeming shabby despite its price. The location is superb, in the heart if St. Germain, and extras like bathrobes, thick towels, large tubs and so forth put this well above 3 star, as does the staff service. Price puts it at 4 star plus, but shop for internet deals to get value. LG

Hotel Sezz

Between the Trocadero and the Eiffel Tower, this hotel defines boutique service. You are assigned an “assistant” when you check in, who you can call on with questions and needs. Cellphone rental? Massage? Spa treatment? Food at 2 a.m.? Breakfast is leisurely, with a good selection of cold offerings. There are DVD’s you can borrow at the front desk. Large tubs and rain head shower. Has the first (not the only) Veuve Clicqout champagne bar in Paris. Check the website for 30-40 per cent off deals. LG

Two steps from the Champs d’Elysees, walking distance from movies, restaurants and the CDG shuttle bus. Clean, air conditioned, minibar and coffee-maker in the room. Check your room location carefully, as it’s very noisy around this area, especially in the summer. Full restaurant with room service. Your room rate will reflect that you are in tourist-central, so don’t expect flashier amenities for the price. LG
