Esprit is all about the Left Bank! A great location set in the most fashionable district of Paris, surrounded by the loveliest boutiques and shops, all types of galleries and patisseries like Pierre Herme and Gérard Mulot. It is truly in walking distance to the heart of Paris… the Louvre, Musee D’Orsay and Notre Dame. The hotel, as you may know, is within sight of the Church of Saint Sulpice, but also it is sandwiched between both Rue Bonaparte and Rue de Seine — which take you directly to the river… via a wonderful array of restaurants, galleries and cafes like Deux Magots, Cafe de Fleur and don’t miss – Laduree.

The blocks around the hotel simply breathe of luxury in hushed tones. The creativity that goes into Parisian window displays – whether to front a high-fashion house or a neighborhood chocolatier – is unmatched anywhere in the world. This is one of the best neighborhoods to experience window shopping, where a medieval maze of streets have trend-setting boutiques, old shops like Poilane, as well as, larger stores like Au Bon Marché. Between the church of St-Germain-des-Prés and that of St-Sulpice, hides a little restaurant La Petite Cour and just a little further is great dining at Helene Darroze. All of this adds to your stay at Esprit Saint Germain.

The hotel interior has the same panache – subtle but its detail, detail, detail. The cozy fireplace in the living room just lures you in like being in a private club. Wonderful candles add to the glow and fresh aromas. Everything has been thought out. As the hotel is small – efficiency rules and the space is utilized very smartly. The bathrooms are perfectly fitted, sleek slate, great lighting, mirrors with storage behind, and a deep soaking tub. Mini-bars are very generous. Tea/coffee maker well supplied. Liked a bottle of water on the desk. And loved being sent off to the airport with a bottle of water for the trip… a very thoughtful gesture — and there were plenty of them.

The breakfast room is warm with the lovely vaulted ceiling – well lit with modern fixtures ample for reading the morning paper and quiet. Excellent quality of jams, honey and butter.

The staff is exceptional — polite, friendly and are proactive hosts. They take exceptional pride in the hotel.

Hotel Lancaster

Luxury near the Champs d’Elysees. The hotel has an in house chef who prepares updated classics like frog’s legs, offers seasonal perks like horse-drawn carriage rides and is very much about comfort and service. Be prepared to be in a busy area, which makes it convenient for touring, but not necessarily relaxing once you step outside. LG

Hotel Costes

Boutique hotel around the corner from the Ritz. Decorated like an upscale bordello and a common choice for romantic weekends. Plenty of on site extras like a pool, fitness center, Costes beauty products, a chef-manned restaurant and bar, but the staff, even the concierge (!), is considered by most to be terribly aloof, unhelpful and on the make for tips. Good for jetset celebrity-spotting. LG

Hotel Bristol

Impeccable neighborhood, genuine old master paintings and antiques, 1920′s Deco bathrooms, this is all about old money luxury that might be on the stuffy side to some. Service, service, service, with, for example, two hotel-owned Smart cars which can be hired by guests for 10 euros per half day. A gorgeous courtyard garden, and an on site brasserie, tea room and bar, plus swimming pool, gym and so forth. Very luxe. This hotel was built around the time of the great ocean liners like Titanic, and consequently the interior has that feel. LG

Jays Paris Hotel

Who says lack of availability doesn’t drive demand through the roof? A five star hotel with only 11 rooms.

Originally built in 1850 the hotel has been extensively renovated and is amazing. Jays Paris is located near the Arc de Triomphe, avenue des Champs Elysees and Trocadero. Room service, free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, 24 hour reception, video security, minibars, same day laundry service all available. A five star service in a small luxury hotel.

Hotel Plaza Athenee

Featuring gorgeous onsite restaurants, this 1911 landmark is part of the Dorchester hotel collection. It’s right between the Champs d’ Elysees and the Eiffel Tower, a very posh part of Paris. Service is fantastic. The hotel offers special kid perks like pint-size slippers, robes, cookies and milk upon arrival, and a private ice rink in December and January. There are special romantic packages and private Paris tours on offer through the concierge. LG

Really sublime breakfast and brunch here. Had it one one Sunday morning. Hotel has an excellent reputation for service but some say could use bathroom upgrades given the price. Stated top be 5 star but more like 4 star plus. Onsite spa, restaurants and bars.
Majority of the rooms are non smoking. 5 stories in the Empire style. One of the top Paris hotels – JR

Georges V – Four Seasons

Simple, the best of Paris. The Four Seasons – Georges V hotel. Staff not always as friendly as American 4 Seasons locales. Very expensive. Expect Saudi Stars and Hollywood Sheiks in the lobby. Wait, the other way around. Le Cinq restaurant has a prix fixe lunch which is a very good deal for fine food. LG
