A five minute walk to the Champs Elysees, so very much a premium neighborhood. Nice onsite bar, with a lounge and english language newspapers in the lobby. This is a boutique style hotel, so not a bustling “scene.” Serene rooms; bathrooms have actual baths, not just showers.

Hotel Sorbonne

This is a former 2 star which upgraded itself by adding air conditioning units in most rooms, an on-site bar, and redecorated rooms and bathrooms. Hotel Sorbonne is a consumer favorite due to its good location and proximity to the Latin Quarter, Sorbonne and music clubs, cafes, and so forth. The hotel is completely non smoking.

Rooms are also equipped with a new iMac for easy internet access.

Hotel Esprit Saint Germain

Esprit is all about the Left Bank! A great location set in the most fashionable district of Paris, surrounded by the loveliest boutiques and shops, all types of galleries and patisseries like Pierre Herme and Gérard Mulot. It is truly in walking distance to the heart of Paris… the Louvre, Musee D’Orsay and Notre Dame. The hotel, as you may know, is within sight of the Church of Saint Sulpice, but also it is sandwiched between both Rue Bonaparte and Rue de Seine — which take you directly to the river… via a wonderful array of restaurants, galleries and cafes like Deux Magots, Cafe de Fleur and don’t miss – Laduree.

The blocks around the hotel simply breathe of luxury in hushed tones. The creativity that goes into Parisian window displays – whether to front a high-fashion house or a neighborhood chocolatier – is unmatched anywhere in the world. This is one of the best neighborhoods to experience window shopping, where a medieval maze of streets have trend-setting boutiques, old shops like Poilane, as well as, larger stores like Au Bon Marché. Between the church of St-Germain-des-Prés and that of St-Sulpice, hides a little restaurant La Petite Cour and just a little further is great dining at Helene Darroze. All of this adds to your stay at Esprit Saint Germain.

The hotel interior has the same panache – subtle but its detail, detail, detail. The cozy fireplace in the living room just lures you in like being in a private club. Wonderful candles add to the glow and fresh aromas. Everything has been thought out. As the hotel is small – efficiency rules and the space is utilized very smartly. The bathrooms are perfectly fitted, sleek slate, great lighting, mirrors with storage behind, and a deep soaking tub. Mini-bars are very generous. Tea/coffee maker well supplied. Liked a bottle of water on the desk. And loved being sent off to the airport with a bottle of water for the trip… a very thoughtful gesture — and there were plenty of them.

The breakfast room is warm with the lovely vaulted ceiling – well lit with modern fixtures ample for reading the morning paper and quiet. Excellent quality of jams, honey and butter.

The staff is exceptional — polite, friendly and are proactive hosts. They take exceptional pride in the hotel.

L’Atelier Montparnasse Hotel

In a nod to local famous artists, each bathroom features a tile mosaic of a famous painting. Full baths, not just showers. Nice desk staff, wifi and non smoking rooms. Air conditioned, only 17 rooms. LG

Hotel Pershing Hall

A boutique hotel with the on and off staff typical of these hotels. Very pretty design, with a trendy bar and nightclub. Guests say you can hear the bass thumping in certain rooms. The restaurant has a love/hate following. Prices are near 5 star levels, so if that’s your price point you can probably do better than this locale. The hotel’s location is fantastic, with a platinum history as the pied a terre of a French count’s mistress and being General Pershing’s WWI headquarters. LG

Hotel Saint Dominique

5 minutes walk from the Eiffel Tower or Les Invalides, this hotel is a good value relative to location with a lot of quirks. A 300 year old former convent with 3 annexes. You never know where you’ll be walking after you check in at the front desk. Across the street from a British pub and next door to a boulangerie. Blase staff. No a.c., so noisy in summer with the windows open. LG

Hotel Duo Axial Beaubourg

In the same family since 1918, this hotel was completely renovated recently so bathrooms are super clean and above average for a 3 star hotel. The location is the heart of the Marais, an area you can stay in for days and just graze from cafe to cafe to falafel joint. Rooms are small but cleanly designed; hotel has air conditioning, onsite bar, fitness center and sauna. LG

Christian Lacroix designed this 7 story modern hotel, in a terrific neighborhood for walking, dining and shopping. Small rooms, well appointed with eclectic design you could love or hate. Air conditioned and sound proofed. On site lounge; room service available. Part of the same group which owns The Five. LG

Minutes walk from Left Bank shopping and the Musse d’Orsay. The 6 story building dates from the 18th century, featuring an eclectic vintage elevator marked as a historical site! Cute and quiet, in a very safe neighborhood. Some bathrooms have two sinks – good for couples. When breakfast is included, be sure to order a cappuccino as part of your breakfast. Restaurants are steps away. LG
